Nearly all diamonds bear naturally identifying characteristics known as "inclusions". S.A.Peck & Company, like other quality jewelers employs the GIA clarity grading system when selecting diamonds to sell. The resulting nomenclature provides a method by which diamonds are rated on the extent of the inclusions each bears.

The following chart is a simple and easy overview of the clarity grading universally used in the diamond industry.

Shape Definition Description F Flawless or Internally Flawless No inclusions visible, even under 10X magnification. VVS-1 Very, Very Slightly Included Almost no imperfections visible under 10X magnification. VVS-2 Very, Very Slightly Included Very few and very slight inclusions visible under 10X magnification. VS-1 Very Slightly Included Few and slight inclusions visible under 10X magnification. VS-2 Very Slightly Included Slightly more inclusions visible than VS-1 under 10X magnification. SI-1 Slightly Included Inclusions visible under 10X magnification. SI-2 Slightly Included Inclusions readily visible. I-1 Included Inclusions very readily visible under 10X magnification and may be apparent to the naked eye. I-2 Included Inclusions visible to the naked eye.
